Butter Lobster Tails At Home — Just Like A Steakhouse

Butter lobster tails at home, just like a steakhouse — no special equipment, no fuss, just seven simple steps. It starts with a garlic herb butter that flavors everything, and ends with golden, bubbling tails and a pan of liquid gold for dipping. And because it was that kind of night, these tails joined the table the same evening my son cooked his first steak at home — the steak tutorial on this site is the other half of that dinner — and turned it into a full surf & turf. This tutorial was filmed in three language editions, all gathered on this page: English here, and the Korean and Chinese editions below.

Ingredients

  • Lobster tails
  • A stick of butter, softened
  • Fresh garlic
  • Cilantro
  • Lemon — zest and juice
  • A pinch of salt

Seven simple steps

  1. Step 1 — Make the garlic herb butter: soften a stick of butter, then stir in minced garlic, chopped cilantro, lemon zest, a squeeze of lemon juice, and a pinch of salt, until smooth and fragrant.
  2. Step 2 — Thaw the tails in cold water, rinse them well, and pat them dry — dry tails take the butter better.
  3. Step 3 — With kitchen shears, cut straight down the top of the shell, stopping right before the tail fin.
  4. Step 4 — Lift the meat up and rest it on top of the shell, piggyback style; pull out the dark vein, and line the tails up on a baking tray.
  5. Step 5 — Spoon the garlic herb butter generously over every tail, add a small pat of butter on top, and bake until the meat is opaque and the tops turn golden.
  6. Step 6 — Out of the oven: golden and bubbling, the meat white and firm — and save the butter sauce in the pan for dipping.
  7. Step 7 — Plate them hot, with a squeeze of fresh lemon and the warm melted butter alongside.

An honest note: the tutorial states no oven temperatures or timings, so none are written here — everything on this page is exactly what the videos show and say.
